Mercedes Schlapp's role in the role of White House Strategic Communications Advisor isn't simple. In her role as the White House's strategic communications advisor, Schlapp faces a myriad of issues. The president is his own communications director. There are numerous legal matters that may affect messaging strategies. And Cabinet Secretaries who are embroiled in their respective controversy. Schlapp, however, has maintained her focus on her role. She collaborates closely in conjunction with White House political affairs and committees on legislation as well as policy shops and the overall communications operation in order to ensure that the policies are implemented. As of now she's focused on several issues including school safety and opioids. There isn't much interaction with media outlets in her role. The media attention she received during March was when her name appeared as one of the candidates to succeed Hope Hicks. Mercedes Schlapp has a tough job as White House's strategist for communications. The White House strategist's adviser to communications must contend with multiple legal disputes that may affect the communications strategy of the administration, and Cabinet secretaries involved in their own scandals. Schlapp is, however, never lost focus on her role. She is in close contact in conjunction with White House political affairs and committees on legislation as well as policy shops as well as with the overall communications team to coordinate the policy roll-out. Her focus to date is on issues like security in schools, the opioid epidemic, infrastructure, trade and other related topics. Schlapp's current job doesn't involve any contact with journalists. In March, she was mentioned to be a possible candidate to take over Hope Hicks at the Communications Director job. The battle has been bitter. The allies of Schlapp and Tony Sayegh have begun to fight in the media. Schlapp told the Washington Examiner that she spoke with Sayegh regarding the recent article that was negative on him.
